Print the PDF version (Adobe Reader required) On August 18, 2005, a series of tornadoes hit southern Wisconsin. The village of Viola was directly in the path of the storm. When it roared out of the village, it left damage and destruction on almost every property within the village limits and the surrounding area. Working in partnership with Richland County Government, the Village of Viola, the State of Wisconsin, and other area partners, NHS responded swiftly to the needs of the home owners in the area. By organizing an effective Community Development Block GrantEmergency Assistance Program (CDBGEAP), emergency grants could be provided to income eligible households in the Richland and Vernon County tornado disaster areas. Substantial progress has been made in the first six months of the contract. Progress to date: ü 35 CLOSED/COMPLETED/or with Construction in progress projects @ $334,984 in committed CDBG-EAP Rehab Grant funding in Vernon and Richland County. ü 20 APPLICATIONS are now in processing, bidding and documentation stages. ü ANOTHER 15-20 rehab project grants @ $181,072 will be completed from this final group of later applications. ü Therefore, an estimated 50+ CDBG-EAP Recovery Grants completed @ $452,681 by the end of the contract. ü All CDBG-EAP work in Richland County, Viola and Vernon County is projected to be completed by the fall of 2006, about 1 year from the Tornado(s) touchdown. The contract is in effect through Dec. 31, 2006.

The NHS Staff Team of Cheryl Dull, Marilyn Perez, Corrina Mott, Terry Testolin and NHS Board Members Mike OLeary and Jim Vodak who make up the CDBG-EAP grant approval Committee, continue to move our CDBG-EAP contract forward with good speed and accountability in depth.
