Success Story from Neighborhood Housing Services of Richland County   In November 2010, NHS of Richland County sold a "target area" Haseltine Court new construction home (GreenBuilt and Energy Start certified) to a low income first-time homebuyer.  Deb is a single mom with 3 children who was hopeful that she could own her own home.  After taking the homebuyer education seminar and completing one-on-one counseling with NHS HomeOwnership Center, her dream became a reality.  In an email she sent to NHS shortly after purchasing the home she expressed her gratitude for the assistance and hard work of the NHS team:   "As Thanksgiving approaches what an appropriate time to thank you for all of your efforts.  I love the house and am truly enjoying making  it “home”.  I realize it took much effort to meet the closing date last Tuesday.  NHS provides a great service to our community. What a wonderful program.  Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving."

Text Box: NHS new homeowner Deb with her 3 sons in front of their house, purchased November 2010.  The home is Energy Star and Green Built certified, stick-built by local contractors, and funded by NHS of Richland County in a partnership with WHEDA.  To purchase the home, Deb obtained a mortgage from USDA Rural Development and down payment assistance from NHS of Richland County and the City of Richland Center.  The family will have access to NHS Community Building and Organizing activities in their neighborhood through the Haseltine Court initiative.
